Florida Gulf Coast University Plans 80-Acre Biotechnology Park

There are many new projects going on at Florida Gulf Coast University. If university president William Merwin has his way, the latest project would be a research and educational complex covering 80-acres of land. The complex could yield one of the most impressive biotechnology parks in the area.The proposed park would be situated on undeveloped land adjacent to Teco Arena. Land a Naples developer has promised to FGCU."What we do here on the campus is provide knowledge and info and conduct research. The park would be the business application,” said Merwin.The university would sell products derived from research.President Merwin’s plan includes 80 acres total with 20 acres for the biotech park. The remainder of the land would be developed into K-12 charter schools.FGCU hopes to start work on the park this fall.
