Minnesota Public Radio -- Rural Minnesota has 13 percent of the state's population, but only five percent of all Minnesota physicians practice there, according to the Minnesota Hospital Association. With a wave of doctors nearing retirement, things are likely to get worse. For patients, the shortage means longer waits to get medical attention. The most critical need is for doctors who practice family medicine.
