SmartBrief -- A study showed that 8.3% of patients overdue for colorectal cancer screening who received an electronic reminder and a Web link to access information on their risk of the cancer underwent screening after one month compared with 0.2% of a control group. A separate study found an 18.2% colorectal cancer screening rate after six months for patients who received e-mail reminders, a brochure and a DVD, and a follow-up call about screening, compared with 12.1% for those who didn’t. Researchers were concerned, however, that even with the notifications, the screening rates were still low.
