Harleysville, PA, USA November 21st, 2014: Colorcon is proud to announce that Dr Ali Rajabi-Siahboomi, VP and Chief Scientific Officer, has been awarded a prestigious International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council (IPEC) Foundation Award for his work in excipient research and development. Dr Rajabi-Siahboomi, who joined Colorcon in 2000 and has led the company’s highly successful development program, received the 2014 Industry Research Achievement in Excipient Technology Award during the recent American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Annual Meeting, San Diego, California.
The IPEC Awards were established to encourage the growth of technology related to excipients for the betterment of the public and medical science. IPEC believes that as medical technology advances and active ingredients become more complex, it is imperative that excipients also become more sophisticated. Dr Rajabi-Siahboomi agrees: “My main research interests have always been in the area of solid dosage form pharmaceutics and applications of pharmaceutical technology with emphasis on the role of excipients in drug delivery systems. At Colorcon I have been able to apply this to the development and characterization of various polymers used for immediate and modified release coatings and technologies. For example polymers (such as cellulosics) are widely used for pharmaceutical applications such as binders, film coating, barrier membrane coating, matrix applications and osmotic pump technology”.
