BOTHELL, Wash., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cardiac Science Corporation , a global leader in advanced cardiac monitoring and defibrillation products, today announced it has signed an agreement with Greenway Medical Technologies, a leading provider of integrated electronic health record (EHR) and practice management software solutions for physicians’ practices. The agreement allows for the integration of Cardiac Science’s HeartCentrix(TM) EHR integration software, which enables seamless transfer of ECG, exercise stress and Holter monitoring results, with Greenway’s EHR PrimeSuite(R) solution, the company’s ambulatory software suite that includes Integrated Practice Management, EHR and Managed Care solutions.

The integration of Cardiac Science’s Burdick devices with Greenway’s software will help streamline workflow in physicians’ offices, eliminate a source of data transcription errors and provide the physician with a unified view of patient diagnostic data. Physicians will have immediate access to electronically view or edit a patient’s test results and later retrieve the data from PrimeSuite.
“The integration of our Burdick brand ECG, stress and Holter devices will enhance the functionality of PrimeSuite by enabling physicians’ offices to utilize the market-leading devices that they prefer,” said John Hinson, chief executive officer of Cardiac Science Corporation. “In the past, EHR integration almost always required physicians to incur significant costs associated with replacing their existing devices. Physicians will be better able to leverage their current investments through the flexibility of HeartCentrix(TM).”
“By interfacing PrimeSuite with Burdick devices, Greenway is able to demonstrate its commitment to interoperability within the healthcare industry,” said Tee Green, president of Greenway Medical Technologies. “With this integration, physicians using HeartCentrix(TM) will be further impressed with the efficiency and functionality PrimeSuite adds to the experience.”
While many physicians typically process and collect vast amounts of patient information generated from disparate sources in hard-copy format, the industry is increasingly moving towards implementing electronic-based records to more efficiently integrate and manage all of the interrelated data. The ability to readily access and modify electronic medical records and obtain a more cohesive view of a patient’s medical information have contributed to the growing trend among physicians’ offices to adopt EHR solutions that help enhance patient care. According to the AC Group, a healthcare technology advisory and research firm, the EHR adoption rate in small physicians’ offices (1-4 physicians) is expected to increase from 7 percent in 2005 to over 50 percent by 2007.
