United Physicians To Subsidize Purchase Of Electronic Medical Records

BINGHAM FARMS, Mich., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- United Physicians’ Board of Directors has approved the establishment of a subsidy program to assist its physicians in the purchase of electronic medical records (EMR). The subsidy will bestow $1,040,000 over three years on the first 150 physicians who participate in the physician organization’s EMR initiative.

“By creating this subsidy program we are removing one of the major barriers that prevent physicians from investing in EMRs,” said Steven D. Grant, MD, President of United Physicians. “The purpose of our EMR initiative is to position our physicians to meet the challenges and requirements of the healthcare industry, while supporting quality patient care and an efficient, effective and positive office environment.”

The subsidy program specifically supports the purchase of North Carolina- based Misys Healthcare Systems’ products. United Physicians’ EMR initiative includes an exclusive partnership with Misys to make Misys EMR(TM) and Misys Tiger(TM) more accessible and affordable for its members. The partnership makes Misys’ electronic medical records solution and practice management system the EMR package of choice for United Physicians’ 1,500 physician members.

“While there are several quality vendors of EMRs, we chose to partner with Misys because of their physician-centric approach,” said Frank DeLaura, Chief Operating Officer of United Physicians. “Our mission to support quality and cost-effective healthcare delivery is strengthened when the physician-patient relationship is the center of the healthcare delivery model. The Misys products support this focus.”
