The American Health Care Association And Silverchair Contribute Staff Education To Mitigate Senior Care Flu Vaccine Emergency

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Responding to the flu vaccine shortage, the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and Silverchair Learning Systems have created an online education module for employees of senior care organizations. The interactive course reviews the practices caregivers should follow to protect themselves and their residents from the spread of influenza in the senior care environment. Seniors are at risk of developing serious complications -- including death -- if they get the flu.

“Influenza Prevention Protocols for Senior Care” has been developed according to CDC guidelines and utilizes Silverchair Learning Systems’ web- based learning management system. Senior Care employees can log on to the system free of charge and receive a quick, effective educational seminar. No special software is required; any computer user with an internet connection and a web browser can take the course.

“The flu vaccine shortage has caused a challenge in all health care organizations this fall. In this environment it is especially critical that all senior care professionals become educated in the practices they should follow to avoid getting and spreading influenza,” said Chris Condeelis, Senior Director of Professional Development and Quality at AHCA. “We are pleased to work with Silverchair Learning Systems to provide this important public service to our member organizations in response to the crisis.”

“Our mission is to improve the quality of care in Senior Care organizations with online education and training,” said Michael R. Benzian, President of Silverchair Learning Systems. “We’re glad we can collaborate with the AHCA and its state member organizations to make a contribution to our industry at this critical time.”

Available in English and Spanish, the influenza course is designed to be appropriate for all employees (front-line, management, and administrative) working in senior care organizations. All enrollees receive a Certificate of Completion when they finish the program. It can be accessed at http://www.silverchairlearning.com/flucourse.
