ScanMed QR Improves Epilepsy and Diabetic Profile Options for Better Information to Emergency Responders

OKLAHOMA CITY — June 1, 2012 — In a step to further improve medical alert technology, industry leader ScanMed QR has added additional new features that will give emergency responders even more information when responding to a medical emergency call for their customers living with Diabetes and Epilepsy. Starting June 1st, ScanMed QR customers that have Diabetes will have the ability to list their A1C average that gives responders the person’s blood glucose control over the last 90 days. The A1C is determined by measuring the glycated hemoglobin in a person's blood. For ScanMed QR customers with Epilepsy, they now have the ability to add the date of their last seizure and to show whether their seizures are under control. President and co-founder, Eric Richardson stated, “This update was a no-brainer because it answers the very first questions that emergency responders typically ask first when they find out that the person they’re treating has Diabetes or Epilepsy.”

A Different Type of Medical Alert Product

ScanMed QR was formed in 2011 based on Richardson’s mother’s struggles with Epilepsy and Type 1 Diabetes. Since launching the company, ScanMed QR rapidly became the leader in medical alert products with their unique approach to using Quick Response (QR) codes laser etched into a silicone sports band. Customers create an online profile on the company’s website and can edit, change or update their medical information, medications, allergies and more at any time without having to re-purchase their medical alert product.

Richardson continued, “The beauty of ScanMed QR is that it’s dynamic. If your medication dosage changes, no problem – log in, edit your information and save your profile and you’re done. Whether your band is scanned 5 seconds or 5 days after updatingyour information, responders will see the latest medical information that was last saved.”

Continually Improving

Vice President and co-founder, Victoria Bill added, “ScanMed QR’s latest update shows why we’re the industry leader when it comes to medical alert products. We believe that our customers deserve more than just clicking a checkbox to show that they have Diabetes,Epilepsy or multiple medical conditions. We know that there are numerous other factors that go along with having these medical conditions and that’s why we work tirelessly to provide the features that our customers need.”
