ST. CATHARINES, ON, Feb. 1 /CNW/ - Norgen Biotek Corp, an innovative
Canadian biotechnology company focusing principally on advancing powerful
innovations for nucleic acid and protein purification, today announced the
launch and commercialization of ProteoSpin(TM) protein purification kits based
on its proprietary silicon carbide (SiC) resin technology. This is the first
in a series of proteomics sample preparation kits that Norgen Biotek Corp is
introducing to the market directly and through channel partners globally.
The ProteoSpin(TM) line of products currently includes three different
protein sample preparation kits complete with columns and reagents for use in
proteomics: 1) The ProteoSpin(TM) Concentration, Buffer Exchange and Desalting
Kit, 2) The ProteoSpin(TM) Detergent Clean-Up Kit, and 3) The ProteoSpin(TM)
Inclusion Body Isolation Kit. These kits are designed to provide a fast and
simple procedure for the preparation of protein samples to be used in
downstream applications, including mass spectrometry, electrophoresis, x-ray
crystallography, NMR spectroscopy and refolding experiments. The products have
been used extensively in mass spectroscopy centers. "We have been testing and
using ProteoSpin technology here at CRMS for over two years," said Dr. Michael
Siu, professor of chemistry and director of the Centre for Research in Mass
Spectrometry in the Faculty of Science & Engineering at York University,
Toronto. "We have found that the kits are reliable, quick and easy to use and
allow for convenient purification and concentration of a wide variety of
biological starting materials."
