National Cancer Coalition Release: National Cancer Coalition Donates Cancer Pharmaceuticals To Mexico

NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Cancer Coalition (NCC) http://www.nationalcancercoalition.org/ has completed transfer of a shipment of cancer pharmaceuticals to hospitals in Mexico that serve needy oncology patients. NCC President Robert Landry said the medicines went to 10 organizations and hospitals throughout the country.

In a hand-over ceremony in Mexico City, U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza noted "the generosity of (NCC) which has made a historic donation of life-saving drugs to the Casa de la Amistad's medicine bank." NCC's donation of medicines to Casa de la Amistad (Friendship House) was the first gift from an American foundation to the Mexican institution, he said. The American charity provided the medicines for poor patients at no charge. "We hope that the generosity of the National Cancer Coalition will be an example for other institutions to act upon," he added.

Ambassador Garza and Landry participated along with officials of the Mexican Ministry of Health and several public hospitals. NCC's international medical assistance program, termed "NCCares", has provided pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and hospital supplies to public hospitals and local humanitarian organizations in 18 developing nations around the world.

"Our donated medical goods have helped thousands of needy patients to receive life-saving chemotherapy treatments for their cancers, as well as medicines for associated illnesses," Landry said.

NCC, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation headquartered in New Orleans, supports cancer research and undertakes educational, prevention and medical relief programs throughout the world. Through its Angel Grants program, NCC supports cutting-edge cancer research in the United States. It has also distributed educational materials and sponsored community health screenings.
