Michigan Blues To Help Bring Health Care Relief To Tsunami Victims

DETROIT, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network are launching a two-year fundraising campaign, in conjunction with the Salvation Army, to help with health care for victims of the Asian tsunami disaster.

"We will donate money raised from employee contributions over the next two years," said Cathy Mozham, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's director of Community Affairs. "In addition to employee donations, and to help meet immediate relief needs, the Michigan Blues are making an upfront donation of $500,000 to the Salvation Army's relief fund."

All employee contributions, as well as the upfront corporate donation of $500,000 will go directly to the tsunami relief efforts in Sri Lanka through the Salvation Army.

"We are delighted that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network have chosen the Salvation Army to be their conduit to the needs of those affected by this horrible disaster," said Russ Russell, the Salvation Army's executive director of development. "We assure the Michigan Blues that 100 percent of their donation will be used to provide health care to the Sri Lankan town of Galle."
