MapInfo Debuts Health Care Offerings; Health Care Organizations Rely On MapInfo Technology For Planning, Network Analysis And Improved Customer Service

TROY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 2004--MapInfo Corporation (NASDAQ: MAPS), the leading provider of location intelligence solutions for the enterprise, today debuted solutions for the health care industry. Nearly 100 health care organizations, including Quest Diagnostics and Tucson Medical Center, are among the hospitals, care networks, health plans and pharmaceutical companies now relying on MapInfo technology for site selection, planning, market segmentation and network planning.

In addition to serving its existing customers, MapInfo is continuing to develop and introduce new health care solutions to address market needs, including easy-to-use network analysis technology.

“MapInfo’s technology can really drive the decision-making process regarding the delivery of health care,” said Terrence Weeks, director of planning at Tucson Medical Center. “From my first-hand knowledge, the real benefit of MapInfo has been in understanding the links between the market, our competitors and the impact of network access. While some hospital administrators may look at spreadsheets, with a different approach--one that involves location and mapping--you can really improve care access. Essentially, mapping technology gives me a perspective on the market that I cannot gather any other way.”

For example, Tucson Medical Center, a 674-bed hospital, uses MapInfo solutions to help expand physician networks, assess new market opportunities and identify new population groups to target. MapInfo provides Tucson Medical with an effective approach for solving many of the organization’s traditional planning and development challenges. For instance, the hospital recently utilized MapInfo(R) TargetPro(R) to help resolve the hospital’s nursing shortage through targeted recruiting and retention programs. The non-profit organization has also used MapInfo technology to help a physicians group determine potential market share for a new outpatient surgery facility.

Leveraging existing legacy systems and multiple databases, MapInfo’s technology allows health care organizations to visualize critical information, including demographic breakdowns of customers, markets and health data. Both MapInfo’s health care desktop and Web-based offerings are based on easy-to-customize, standards-based technology, which integrates easily with a company’s existing infrastructure.

“Many health care managers and IT professionals are looking for solutions that provide them with a competitive edge and enhanced customer service,” said Tim Riley, senior marketing manager, MapInfo. “With MapInfo’s solution for health care, organizations are able to clearly visualize important business data, make better decisions and deliver stronger, more personalized customer service.”
