LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Humana Inc. announced today that Humana Military Healthcare Services (HMHS), working on behalf of and at the direction of the Department of Defense (DoD), is beginning a week-long outreach campaign to 586 American Red Cross shelters throughout the southern United States. This outreach campaign is designed to assist more than 136,000 TRICARE beneficiaries, in the south that may be displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
“We do not have any idea how many TRICARE beneficiaries may be located throughout the shelters,” said Orie Mullen, chief operating officer (COO) of HMHS. “However, our goal is to ensure each one of the military personnel, retirees and their families understand how to receive medical care during this time.”
Humana Military Healthcare Services is sending staff to hundreds of shelters throughout a ten state area in the south region. Our dedicated associates, many of whom were directly affected by Katrina, will provide one- on-one customer service to TRICARE members and answer questions about health care benefits, in 46 shelters, with more than 400 evacuees on-site. They will also deliver materials that will help explain the benefit as it relates to Hurricane Katrina to an additional 540 locations. We want these individuals to know that Humana Military Healthcare Services is helping ease the process when they do need to seek care.
“We have worked diligently over the past few days to prepare for this outreach program,” said Michael Gill, regional director of TRICARE Regional Office -- South. “We applaud Humana Military Healthcare Services for coordinating this enormous effort so quickly.”
