HCA Gives $1 Million To Tsunami Relief

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- HCA today announced a donation of $1 million to the American Red Cross for international tsunami relief. The company also announced it will match employee donations to relief efforts on a dollar for dollar basis.

“The devastating impact of this natural disaster is almost beyond comprehension,” said Jack O. Bovender, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HCA. “Our mission of commitment to the care and improvement of human life transcends the company and even international borders in this situation. HCA is fortunate to have the ability to help those in need during crises such as this and we are glad to participate. I hope other organizations that have the wherewithal join those already committed to providing aid.”

The company has established a fund through the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to administer employee donations and matching contributions from HCA. Company officials will seek advice from relief organizations and direct money in the fund to areas where it is needed most.

“Many of our employees are eager to help,” Bovender added. “Establishing this fund gives us an efficient way to match contributions and make sure their compassion translates to real help where it can do the most good.”
