HAYWARD, Calif. and KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Farallon Medical, Inc. announced today the appointment of Dr. Lee Carmack as Vice President of Development. Dr. Carmack will be responsible for development initiatives in support of Farallon Medical’s Immedia(TM) PT System, a diagnostic system for blood coagulation testing.

Dr. Carmack has over 15 years experience developing and testing biocompatible materials and implantable medical devices. Before joining Farallon he served as Director of Biologic R&D at World Heart Inc., where he led investigations of new blood conduit designs and coatings for the blood contacting surfaces on ventricular assist devices. Dr. Carmack began his career on the faculty at the University of Memphis, where his research focused on the fluid mechanical aspects of blood coagulation. He later served as a scientist leading controlled drug delivery studies in development of new vascular grafts at the Medical Products Division of W. L. Gore & Associates. Dr. Carmack earned his doctorate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas and his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Microbiology from Texas A&M University.
