COVEGA Corporation Announces 1285 nm Superluminescent Source For 3D Medical Imaging

JESSUP, Md., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- COVEGA Corporation, a leading supplier of high performance indium phosphide and lithium niobate optical components, announced a new superluminescent light source with features which enable high performance medical imaging using optical coherence tomography (OCT).

The COVEGA Model 1023 is a high efficiency, broadband, low ripple superluminescent light emitting diode (SLED) operating at 1285 nm for OCT, spectrum sliced WDM telecommunications, instrumentation, low coherence interferometry, embedded structural sensors, and fiber gyro applications. Model 1023 is a high-efficiency Gaussian ASE source hermetically sealed in a 14-pin butterfly package with integral thermoelectric cooler and temperature sensor. The COVEGA Model 1023 is supplied with polarization maintaining (PM) fiber or industry-standard single mode (SM) fiber.

COVEGA notes that their 1285 nm and earlier 1310 nm superluminescent sources feature unprecedented value and performance with extremely low ripple (0.25 dB rms or less), at full power (> 20 mW) with bandwidths exceeding 40 nm.
