LOS ANGELES and ELIZABETH, N.J., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CompuMed, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: CMPD) -- a developer of Computer Aided Diagnostic (CAD) solutions for the healthcare industry -- and Swissray International, Inc. (SRYI.PK) today announced they have signed a licensing agreement that authorizes Swissray to integrate CompuMed’s proprietary OsteoGram(R) software into its direct digital radiography ddR-systems.
The new Swissray BMD system will be introduced at the 90th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago (November 29-December 3). The system will be on display with Swissray’s family of direct digital radiography systems at the Swissray exhibit (McCormick Place South Building -- Hall A Booth: 4329).
“We are proud to be allied with Swissray -- a pacesetter in orthopedic excellence,” said CompuMed CEO Jerry McLaughlin. “Our OsteoGram application is a natural fit for Swissray’s innovative ddR-system, and we expect to add value to their current success in the orthopedic arena.”
The OsteoGram is a medical image processing system that enables healthcare providers to screen, diagnose and monitor osteoporosis using digital images from filmless x-ray equipment or conventional, film-based hand x-rays. According to the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), osteoporosis affects more than 200 million people worldwide, 80 percent of which are women. Osteoporosis is a major public health threat for 44 million Americans. The disease costs the U.S. healthcare system in excess of $17 billion annually, compared to $6 billion for breast cancer.
“CompuMed’s Bone Mineral Densitometry package is a natural fit for Swissray’s expanding penetration into the orthopedic marketplace,” said Swissray CEO Terry Ross. “By combining CompuMed’s leading BMD with Swissray’s more than 320 installed ddR machines, Swissray customers will receive a substantial new application that adds value to their ddR applications, procedures and revenues. Orthopedics is one of Swissray’s fastest growing market successes, and partnering with CompuMed will enable us to deliver even greater added value to our customers.”
