Chrysler Group Statement In Response To Flu Vaccine Shortage

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Chrysler Group today announced that it would release a significant portion of its unused flu vaccines for redistribution to high-risk groups throughout southeastern Michigan.

Approximately 4,000 units of serum, which were scheduled to be given at Michigan, Ohio and Indiana DaimlerChrysler plant locations will be released to the program’s administrator Passport Health in Farmington Hills and Troy, Mich.

As a health care benefit to its employees, Chrysler Group has offered seasonal flu vaccinations since 1996. The service is a joint effort between the company and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union. On average, one in seven employees is vaccinated.

As a result of the nationwide shortage, the number of vaccines that Chrysler Group was provided was reduced by approximately 50 percent from last year -- proportionate to the national shortage.
