Carter has extensive national and international medical experience in a career spanning 18 years, working as a physician’s assistant, medical provider, administrator and university faculty member. He also has nine years of successful entrepreneurial and executive management experience.
“The combination of clinical and technological experience is rare in the healthcare industry and uniquely qualifies him for this role,” said ChartSpan CEO, Jon-Michial Carter. “We’ll depend on Patrick’s leadership to deliver our product road-map and drive innovation.”
Carter has a current academic appointment at East Carolina University as Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and has served as Department Chair and Program Director for East Carolina University’s Physician Assistant Program.
Prior to joining East Carolina University, Carter served as Chief Operating Officer of Rural Access Medical Providers, staffing medical providers in underserved areas of North Carolina. He also served as a board member and officer of Hillside Healthcare International, delivering vital care to the impoverished residents of Southern Belize.
“The buzz in the medical community right now is ‘interoperability’ which is just a fancy term for communication,” said Carter. “Currently, patients are limited on how they can communicate and share their medical records. ChartSpan is going to remove those limitations. It will bridge the gap between medical providers and patients in a meaningful way that will simplify the communication and empower the patients. This is an exciting time to be in healthcare and we are thrilled to give patients control and access to all of their healthcare information.”
Carter added, “The city of Greenville is such a wonderful and special place. We are very excited about relocating to this area and working full-time with ChartSpan.”
Carter will be stepping away from his full-time clinical practice of emergency medicine to devote his full attention to ChartSpan.
