Atlanta Business Chronicle -- A Marietta-based specialty medical-device maker has raised $5 million of a planned $8 million, and expects to more than double its high-tech production plant.
Amendia Inc. collaborates with surgeons to develop, manufacture and market minimally invasive spine and orthopedic implants and instruments.
Much like a custom tailor cuts a suit based on the client’s specifics measurements, Amendia develops specialized equipment for surgeons looking to improve existing products or develop unique pieces.
Custom-fit tools can decrease the “fiddle factor” in the operating room — shaving 10 to 15 minutes off a surgery, Amendia CEO Jeff Smith said.
