Astra's Exanta Requires Monthly Liver Tests

Doctors using AstraZeneca Plc's (London:AZN.L - News) new anticoagulant pill Exanta will need to give patients monthly liver tests for at least the first six months to check for possible toxicity, an expert on the drug said on Sunday. Europe's second-biggest prescription drug maker hopes Exanta will become a blockbuster for the prevention of strokes, but adverse side effects on the liver in a minority of patients have clouded its prospects.
