EGMN -- Nerve blocks are an excellent choice for regional anesthesia in select emergency department patients, but it can be difficult to target the appropriate nerves in some parts of the body using the landmark-based approach. Bedside ultrasound—a relatively new technique for emergency medicine—helps visualize nerve bundles and guide the needle tip to enable a successful nerve block, according to Dr. Michael Stone.
