PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Independence Blue Cross releases the following statement:
For the past several months, Independence Blue Cross (IBC), the other Pennsylvania Blue Plans and representatives of the Rendell administration have been engaged in discussions to formalize an arrangement with the Commonwealth that would provide resources and more targeted support for the growing number of uninsured adults in Pennsylvania.
IBC has a rich history and tradition of reaching out to and meeting the health care needs of our community’s most vulnerable citizens. Whether through our Caring Foundation for Children, our decision to participate in the Commonwealth’s adultBasic program, the Independence Blue Cross Charitable Medical Care Grant Program, Special Care or other subsidized products for those who would otherwise not have access to quality health insurance, IBC’s corporate culture and “social mission” has always placed an exceptionally high value on being there for those who are medically and economically disadvantaged, especially those that other commercial health insurers choose to leave behind.
We believe that the Community Health Reinvestment agreement announced by the Governor today is consistent with our longstanding commitment to the uninsured in southeastern Pennsylvania and provides a viable framework for continuing to address this serious issue in the coming years.
