State Of Nebraska Renews And Expands Contract With Thomson Medstat For Healthcare Information Services

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Medstat, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), has won a four-year, $4.2 million contract to provide the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Finance and Support with healthcare information analysis and fraud detection services.

Medstat will deliver information and analytic capabilities to help Medicaid officials forecast budgets, manage programs, evaluate healthcare service delivery and utilization, assess cost effectiveness, fulfill legislative requests and federal reporting requirements, and conduct audits and fraud detection. The new capabilities will enhance the state’s information systems, and 90 percent of project implementation costs will be reimbursed with federal funds.

Medstat has provided the state of Nebraska with healthcare information support since 1995, when it was awarded a contract to develop and operate a decision support system for the state Medicaid program. All available extensions to that original contract have been exercised, and this year the state was required to seek competitive bids. Medstat was chosen to provide decision support services as well as a Management & Administrative Reporting (MAR) and a Surveillance and Utilization Review (SUR). The new contract runs until 2008.

“The state of Nebraska, like a growing number of other states, has chosen to implement a Medstat decision support system that also satisfies federal MAR and SUR requirements,” said Medstat Vice President Pate McCartney. “Nebraska’s approach is economical and provides enhanced functionality not available in Medicaid Management Information System MAR/SUR solutions.”
