LOS GATOS, Calif., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- ONStor, Inc., the leader in NAS Gateway solutions for multi-vendor storage, announced today that St. Vincent’s Hospital, the Flagship Digital Hospital for Ascension Health System, the largest non-profit healthcare provider in the United States, has implemented a joint solution of the company’s SF4400 NAS Gateway with Hewlett Packard’s EVA 5000 Fibre Channel disk arrays and Emageon Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) medical imaging software to manage 10 TB of mission-critical data.
As one of the most technologically advanced healthcare facilities in the country, St. Vincent’s sought a way to consolidate its heterogeneous storage environment while taking advantage of the higher redundancy and data availability afforded to it with a multi-vendor system. The hospital decided on a comprehensive storage environment with two HP SANs -- one as a primary data center with the other as a backup SAN, facilitating data protection. ONStor’s NAS Gateway is used on the primary SAN to help simplify and centralize file management services, reducing complexity and providing continuous data availability and protection.
“St. Vincent’s has always been on the leading edge of implementing technological advancements for the betterment of our patients,” said Timothy Stettheimer, CIO of St. Vincent’s. “Medical imaging has fast become an important part of our comprehensive wellness program and to properly manage the vast amounts of data produced and archived, we needed to be sure that our storage system was leading edge too. The combination of PACS software running on HP disk arrays under the management of ONStor file services, ensures that we have continuous access to all of our critical information.”
“Managing multiple terabytes of data within a multi-vendor storage environment -- while lowering complexity and reducing management and facility costs -- is a huge undertaking,” said Jon Toor, vice president of marketing for ONStor. “By seamlessly consolidating heterogeneous systems into a single storage configuration, ONStor was able to create an operating environment that allows St. Vincent’s to focus on patient care as opposed to worrying about its storage architecture.”
Additional benefits to the joint solution adopted by St. Vincent’s include HIPAA compliance, true multi-pathing support and dynamic file expansion.
