EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Medical Services International Inc. wishes to announce that it has begun the necessary work on the rapid test kit for Avian Flu to bring the test kit to market. Based on the preliminary assessments, it is felt that the rapid test kit will be available for use in the field within 60 to 90 days. Medical Services has been informed by its Chinese partners that based on market studies that the demand for an Avian Flu rapid test kit for detection of the Avian Flu virus in animals will exceed 8 to 10 million test kits per year in just China. Should this number be accurate, this will generate in excess of $20,000,000 US per year in sales. Medical Services will be the first company to have a rapid test kit for Avian Flu.
Currently there are Avian Flu infections only in birds in Europe, while in Asia the Avian Flu virus is in both humans and birds. Over 100 million birds in 8 countries have either died from the disease or were killed since 2003 in order to try and control the outbreak of Avian Flu. The key to controlling the outbreak of Avian Flu is fast, early, accurate detection. Medical Services has demonstrated that its VScan rapid diagnostic test kits are fast, accurate, easy to use, require no special training and can be used in remote areas using whole blood.
