Hospitals Honored For Innovations In Medication Safety, Presented By DVHC

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Two hospitals have been recognized for their innovations in patient safety by receiving this year’s Delaware Valley Medication Safety Award. The award honors hospitals for their advances in medication safety and are presented at the Annual Meeting of the Delaware Valley Healthcare Council (DVHC) of HAP.

This year’s Delaware Valley Medication Safety Award was awarded jointly to Northeastern Hospital of Temple Health System and Albert Einstein Medical Center of Jefferson Health System for their high-alert medications double-check administration process. Both projects increase awareness of the risks of high-alert medications and assure additional patient safeguards for administration. Northeastern Hospital devised a medication sticker for all high-alert medications that requires completion of double-check procedure, while Einstein employed health technology to create “smarter” IV pumps.

The award is part of the Regional Medication Safety Program for Hospitals that provides tools and services to help hospitals reduce the possibility of medication errors. The two hospitals will share the $5,000 cash prize to use towards continued innovative safety programs.

In addition, Mercy Suburban Hospital of Mercy Health System received a runner-up award for its continued effort to improve medication safety and for developing a project that can be utilized by other health systems.
