Healthcare Stakeholders To Convene At Annual NCI Summit And Expo

PALM HARBOR, Fla., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- NCI, a healthcare strategic education company, announced today that the 2004 Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) Summit and Expo will feature executives from 60 health systems and representatives of seven of the nation’s largest group purchasing cooperatives (GPOs).

These leaders, along with hundreds of other healthcare experts, will convene for the 10th Annual Summit & Expo, October 3-5, 2004, in Phoenix. The goal of the Summit & Expo is to increase supply chain efficiencies through enhanced stakeholder collaboration, with providers coming together with manufacturers, distributors and GPOs.

“With the serious challenges that exist in America’s healthcare system today, it has become increasingly important that stakeholders representing all facets of the healthcare supply chain renew their efforts to address the real business issues they all face,” says Greg Firestone, NCI Chief Executive Officer. “Our Expo & Summit provides an environment in which they can build trust and settle differences.”

The program offers a unique format, combining networking opportunities with presentations by respected industry leaders. Representatives from Catholic Healthcare West, Princeton Healthcare System and Stanford Hospital and Clinics are among the health systems that have confirmed their participation at the Summit & Expo.

All seven national GPOs will also participate with sponsoring support from AmeriNet, Broadlane, MedAssets and Premier.

Charles S. Lauer, publisher of Modern Healthcare magazine, will deliver the keynote address. Panelists include Robert Hendler, M.D., Vice President of Clinical Quality & Chief Medical Officer, Texas Region, Tenet Health System; Ken Hanover, CEO, Greater Cincinnati Health System; David Distel, Director of Supply Chain Management, Mayo Foundation; and Patricia Salber, M.D., Medical Director, The Center for Practical Health Reform.

Some of the topics to be discussed include: - who pays for the “miracles” of modern technology - whether reprocessing of instruments is a viable way to reduce healthcare costs - how to align supplier and buyer incentives.

Participants at previous Summits have praised the event for providing fruitful introductions to IDN and GPO leaders, resulting in new business relationships. Attendees also said the event gives suppliers a guaranteed audience with their target market that is unparalleled among other conferences.

The Summit & Expo will be held at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona. For the most current information and to register, please visit http://www.ncihome.com/idnse_details.htm
