Injuries to the thoracic aorta that occur as a result of blunt force trauma can be safely treated via endovascular repair, according to a small study published in the July 2010 issue of Archives of Surgery. A percutaneous approach frequently avoids the need for systemic anticoagulation, enabling timely repair in patients with multiple injuries.
