When British regulators shut down Chiron’s flu vaccine factory earlier this month, a shortage hit our nation. It all happened because the country “unexpectedly” lost nearly half of its vaccine supply. But “unexpected” by whom? Leaving half of the country’s vaccine supply in the hands of just one company, at just one facility, is not exactly good contingency planning.
