NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Dilon Technologies LLC (Dilon) has reached an exclusive sales and distribution rights agreement with Hongwoo Medico Co., Ltd. of South Korea. Hongwoo Medico Co., Ltd. (HWM, Ltd.), a distributor of radiology products since 1989, will now be the exclusive distributor of the Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera in South Korea. HWM, Ltd.'s customer base includes large- and medium-sized hospitals and breast clinics throughout South Korea.
The Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera has been optimized for breast imaging, and is used as a complementary diagnostic tool to mammography for high risk patients. Some of the factors that can make mammograms difficult to accurately interpret are dense breast tissue, scar tissue and breast augmentation. Because dense breast tissue and cancers often appear on a mammogram with the same density and structure, physicians are challenged to accurately interpret those results with mammography alone. Complementary imaging procedures are needed to fill the gap -- and Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) with the Dilon 6800 is a strong tool in breast diagnostics; primarily because it images the way breast tissue acts rather than the way it looks.
Suwan Kwak, President, HWM, Ltd., commented, “Breast cancer has been identified as a serious health problem for South Korean women. The disease ranks as the number two form of the disease after liver cancer.” He added, “The decision to sell and distribute the Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera was easy for several reasons. Primary of those being that Korean and many Asian women have dense breasts. In addition, the Dilon camera’s ability to deliver quick diagnostic results with high specificity makes the product ideal for the market.”
“By joining forces with Hongwoo Medico Co., Ltd., Dilon has taken a major step in entering the massive Asian market,” said Vijay Singh, Director of Operations at Dilon. “The Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera is a highly transportable system that will significantly advance early breast cancer detection for the many women who live in rural Asian regions. By launching our product in South Korea we have taken a good first step toward entering the China and India markets.”
About Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging
Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) with the Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera is a complementary diagnostic tool to detect breast cancer when post-mammogram evaluation is indicated. BSGI is able to detect early stage cancers, identify suspicious and difficult-to-interpret breast abnormalities, and help differentiate between benign and malignant tumors. Patients receive a small amount of a radiotracer agent via an injection in the arm that is absorbed by all cells in their body. Because cancerous cells have higher metabolic activity, they absorb a greater amount of the tracer and light up to reveal themselves as “hot spots” to the Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera.
