LAS VEGAS, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi will be in the Las Vegas area on Monday, September 27, 2004, to announce the location of a new medical center for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
The announcement and press conference will be held at 10 a.m. at the Northwest VA Clinic, 2410 Fire Mesa Street, Las Vegas, Nevada. Secretary Principi will be joined at the announcement by Interior Secretary Gail Norton and Sen. John Ensign. The event is open to the public.
Also taking part in the event are Gov. Kenny Guinn (tent.), Reps. James A. Gibbons, Jon C. Porter and Shelley Berkley, North Las Vegas Mayor Michael L. Montandon, and national representatives from the major veterans service organizations.
Secretary Principi announced in May that VA planned to build a 90-bed full service hospital with a 120-bed nursing home. Details of the construction plans and design of future health care in the Las Vegas area will also be discussed.
Secretary Principi directs health care services, benefits programs and burials in national cemeteries for America’s 25 million veterans and dependents. He is also a decorated Vietnam veteran.
