South Carolina BlueCross Wins National Award For STATchat

COLUMBIA, S.C., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina won a silver World Wide Web Health Award for STATchat(SM), a feature on the company’s Web sites that allows physician offices to call BlueCross over the Internet and gives them priority for customer service.

The World Wide Web Health Awards recognize the best health-related Web sites for consumers and professionals. The program is held twice a year - spring/summer and fall/winter - with the goal of providing a “seal of quality” for electronic health information. The Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials, organizes the program.

“South Carolina BlueCross is one of the few companies in any industry using VoIP and we’re happy to be recognized for this achievement in the healthcare industry,” said David Boucher, assistant vice president of healthcare services.

STATchat is located within the secure, self-help My Insurance Manager section of www.SouthCarolinaBlues.com and www.BlueChoiceSC.com. Physician offices simply click on “STATchat” to call for assistance by using an inexpensive headset with microphone, without dialing any numbers on a telephone. STATchat links them with a provider services agent, ahead of calls from provider offices using traditional phone lines.

Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. STATchat is a service mark of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.
