FORT MYERS, Fla., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Radiation Therapy Services, Inc. , a leading operator of radiation therapy centers, announced today that based on a preliminary assessment of its centers, the Company experienced minimal damage and some disruption of services at its facilities in Florida due to the effects of Hurricane Wilma. This disruption occurred in 21 of the Company’s treatment centers, which have temporarily closed. Six of these centers have been reopened as of Tuesday, October 25, sustaining one full day without treating patients. The remaining 15 of these centers will remain closed until local utilities can restore power to the areas where the centers are located.
The preliminary assessment indicates that wind and flooding contributed the minimal damage incurred by the facilities. No damage was inflicted on the Company’s treatment equipment housed within the facilities.
Dr. Daniel Dosoretz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “As doctors and providers of radiation therapy, our first priority is always our patients. Accordingly, we have worked diligently since the passing of Hurricane Wilma to find adequate treatment services to patients that have been affected by the hurricane. We expect that the treatment centers where treatment services have been temporarily postponed will return to full operation by the end of today. We also extend our deep concern to our employees, their families and the communities affected by the storm.”
