FORT MYERS, Fla., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Radiation Therapy Services, Inc. , a provider of radiation therapy services to cancer patients, announced today the appointment of Paul Wallner, D.O., FACR, as Senior Vice President. Dr. Wallner is responsible for overseeing Radiation Therapy Services medical policy issues, including chairing the Company’s Physician Advisory Group. Additional responsibilities include legislative and regulatory affairs, strategic planning, hospital and medical staff relations, and national organizational affairs.

Prior to joining Radiation Therapy Services, Dr. Wallner was Chief of the Clinical Radiation Oncology Branch of the Radiation Research Program at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. During his 32-year career, Dr. Wallner has also served as Clinical Professor and Vice Chairman of Operations and Administration of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and School of Medicine, Chief of the Department of Radiation Oncology and Director of the Cancer Center at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center in Camden, NJ and Chief of Radiation Therapy Service at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. He was President of the American Cancer Society, NJ Division, President of the Oncology Society of New Jersey, and Chairman of the New Jersey State Commission on Cancer Research. Dr. Wallner previously served on the Board of Directors of ASTRO and is currently a member of the Board of Chancellors of the American College of Radiology.
Dr. Wallner was the first and only member of ASTRO to sit on the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services Ambulatory Payment Classification Advisory Committee providing recommendations on hospital outpatient reimbursement codes, levels of reimbursement for hospital-based technical services and new technology utilization. He also served as the ASTRO representative to the American Medical Association’s (AMA) CPT Editorial Panel and the AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Update System Committee. He is a recipient of ASTRO’s Gold Medal, the Distinguished Service Award from the Radiological Society of New Jersey and the Burgess L. Gordon Award for Service from the AMA. He has presented more than 100 invited lectures and has authored or co-authored more than 90 articles, chapters and abstracts throughout his career.
