WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Quantum Foundation awarded over $1.4 million in health-related grants to organizations that aim to improve health and access to health care service in Palm Beach County.

Among the recipients: Florida Atlantic University School of Nursing will receive $725,000 for the School-Based Community Wellness Centers for comprehensive school and satellite health centers that provide immunizations, diagnosis and treatment of health care problems, screenings for vision, learning, mental health, counseling, support groups, and health education.
Barry University School of Social Work -- $185,000 for Just Checking! a program enabling elderly people with chronic illnesses to live independently in their homes, rather than confining them in a hospital or nursing home. The program has cut healthcare costs dramatically.
The Children's Services Council -- $175,000 to provide pregnant women with assistance in the health care enrollment process; these dollars will be matched under the Florida Revenue Maximization bill.
The Urban League of Palm Beach County -- $80,000 to expand Each One Reach One, a diabetes prevention program.
The Access Project at the Third Sector will receive $104,000 grant and the Consumer Credit Counseling Services will receive $20,000 for a program assisting Palm Beach County families that are underinsured or have no health insurance in reducing their medical debt. A key component of the grant will focus on the revision of hospital billing practices for the uninsured.
The mobile mammography unit, known as Project H.O.P.E. (Health, Outreach, Prevention, Education), will receive $37,500 for new equipment that will allow for the provision of diagnostic mammograms.
A $150,000 expansion grant will go to the Sun-Sentinel Children's Fund to support, through a matching gift program, non-profit organizations in Palm Beach County providing tutoring, food and clothing, nutrition services, mental health counseling, and oral health services. Quantum's donation will receive matching funds from the McCormick Tribune Foundation.
