NEW YORK, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Ernst & Young LLP announced today that Bruce C. Vladeck, PhD., a nationally-recognized authority on health care policy and financing, has joined the firm as a Principal in its Health Sciences Advisory Services (HSAS) practice. He will serve as East Coast Director for Ernst & Young’s Academic Medical Center (AMC) service line.
From 1993 through 1997, Vladeck was Administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In that position, he directed the Medicare and Medicaid programs, which provide health insurance to more than 65 million Americans, with combined annual expenditures of more than $300 billion. After his service at HCFA, Vladeck was appointed by President Clinton to the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare, a role that helped reinforce his reputation as one of the nation’s most committed and articulate advocates for improving and expanding health insurance for the elderly, the disabled, and the poor.
“Bruce has been a key figure in the formation of vital U.S. health care policy decisions for many years and we’re honored to have him join the firm,” said Rick Wallace, Managing Partner, Ernst & Young Health Sciences Advisory Services. “By serving as East Coast Director of our newly created AMC service line, Bruce brings years of deep relationships and industry-wide respect to the table and will help increase the presence of the firm in this vital sector of the health care community.”
Ernst & Young recently introduced the AMC service line to address directly the unique needs of academic medical centers nationwide. Building upon the firm’s extensive experience in many of the key areas of concern to C-suite executives in the industry, its new initiative will make all of the firm’s services available under one umbrella focused on this industry.
“AMCs are a vital part of the health care continuum in the U.S.,” said Mark Finucane, Ernst & Young’s West Coast Director, AMC practice. “As national centers of teaching, patient care and clinical research, their activities are critical to the advances and economic conditions of the industry. With the addition of Bruce and his unique experience working in government, private and academic environments, our ability to address client needs with industry leading knowledge and service will be even greater.”
“I’m excited to be joining Ernst & Young, and particularly excited to be able to contribute to the new AMC service line,” said Vladeck. “The enormous dynamism of biomedical research and product development, continuing fiscal challenges, and the implications of the recent elections all create significant challenges and exciting opportunities for our clients. Ernst & Young’s HSAS practice is particularly well-equipped to help clients rise to these challenges, and I look forward to participating in its success.”
