What: Hospital Workers Call Upon Management to Be Fair to Those Who Care When: Wednesday, Oct. 13th at 2:30 p.m. (March), 3:00 p.m. (Rally) Where: March begins at 525 Esplanade, Rally is at 1531 Esplanade CHICO

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, Enloe Medical Center hospital workers and the hospital’s dietary staff and housekeepers employed by Compass Crothall and Compass Morrison respectively, will hold a rally to demand fair treatment from their employers. The hospital caregivers urge the hospital’s administration to abandon stall tactics that have held up legal recognition of the employee union voted in last April of the approximately 600 service workers, including certified nursing assistants, unit secretaries and orderlies employed at the facility.

“We won our election fair and square. Still, we’re being penalized by management fighting the legitimate results of our union election, " said Kyle Harp, Cardio-Vascular Technologist. “We should be at the bargaining table talking about improving patient care and health insurance for caregivers and equitable pay. Instead we’re out in the street working to get management to simply do the right thing.”

The dietary workers employed by subcontractor Compass Morrison and housekeepers employed by subcontractor Compass Crothall Management, will also participate in the march and rally. They are currently seeking an agreement from their employer to bargain in good faith and will rally to demand that their employer provide such basic job standards as health insurance, equitable wages, and retirement.

“We really need health insurance for our families,” said Francisca Ayala, who has worked in environmental services at the hospital for 4 years. “I pay $200 a month for my own health insurance and for dental coverage for my kids. I can’t afford to pay for medical insurance for my children -- it’s not fair that anybody who works in healthcare should have to go without coverage for their own family.”
