Eclipsys Clinical Solutions Selected by Maryland’s Largest Behavioral Health System

BOCA RATON, Fla., July 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Eclipsys Corporation(R) , The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that Sheppard Pratt Health System, Maryland’s largest provider of behavioral health and special education services, will implement Eclipsys Sunrise Clinical Manager(TM) and other Sunrise(TM) clinical solutions. Sheppard Pratt, recognized as one of the nation’s top psychiatric organizations, selected Eclipsys software because of its flexibility to meet the specialized needs of a complex regional behavioral health system.

In addition to Sunrise Clinical Manager, an enterprise-wide clinical information solution, Sheppard Pratt will implement the solution’s rules authoring capability, Physician Solutions, Nursing Care Solutions, Sunrise Remote Access Services(TM), and Sunrise Secure Health Messaging(TM). The software will be remote hosted by the ISO 9001:2000-certified Eclipsys Technology Solutions Center in Mountain Lakes, NJ. As part of the contract, Sheppard Pratt will also leverage clinical transformation services provided by the Eclipsys Consulting Group to maximize value and speed to value.

Sunrise Clinical Manager provides healthcare organizations such as Sheppard Pratt with secure, real-time access to comprehensive patient health records and streamlines the processes of ordering, providing and managing patient care. With the addition of Sunrise Remote Access Services(TM), clinicians at Sheppard Pratt will have anywhere, anytime access to complete, up-to-date patient information at all times. Along with a sophisticated rules and alerts engine with rules authoring capabilities, Eclipsys solutions will help Sheppard Pratt clinicians make better, more informed clinical decisions.

“Prestigious specialty organizations such as Sheppard Pratt are implementing Eclipsys solutions in hospital, residential treatment and physician practice settings to improve communication, workflow, patient safety and overall care delivery,” said Eugene V. Fife, Eclipsys chairman, president and chief executive officer. “More and more organizations are discovering that Eclipsys solutions improve outcomes outside of the standard medical acute care and ambulatory environments.”

Steven S. Sharfstein, MD, Sheppard Pratt president and chief executive officer, noted, “The Eclipsys Vision of Health fits well with our vision of Sheppard Pratt as the pre-eminent regional resource in behavioral health. Our commitment to state-of-the-art patient care carries on the great vision of Moses Sheppard, who challenged us to ‘lead the way’ as care providers. We will continue to lead the way and improve patient care through our use of Eclipsys solutions.”

The only solution

“We performed a thorough search for an integrated clinical software solution that could meet the specialized needs of inpatient and outpatient behavioral health. This environment is very different than medical acute or ambulatory care,” said Greg Merkle, director of Information Systems at Sheppard Pratt. “Eclipsys really had the only solution with the depth and flexibility to support our clinicians and our growing organization.”

Since psychiatric clinicians must routinely complete detailed assessments and documentation, Sheppard Pratt selected Sunrise Clinical Manager for its highly customizable clinical documentation capabilities.

“Documenting patient care with Clinical Manager will enable our clinicians to spend more time providing care and less time on repetitive documentation,” said Robert Roca, MD, vice president and medical director at Sheppard Pratt.

System implementation activities at Sheppard Pratt are scheduled to begin later this year, with activations beginning in mid-2006. Current plans call for the solutions to be deployed in Sheppard & Enoch Pratt Hospital, a 322-bed psychiatric hospital in Towson; Residential Programs located on the Towson Campus; Sheppard Pratt at Ellicott City, an inpatient psychiatric facility serving adults and adolescents; The Jefferson School and Residential Treatment Center, Jefferson, a full day and residential special education school and a licensed residential treatment center serving children and adolescents with emotional and other disabilities; and Sheppard Pratt Physicians, PA, the faculty practice of Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Foundation, Inc., located on the Sheppard & Enoch Pratt Health System campus.
