In the last 80 years, the U.S. has become a powerhouse of science and technology, largely through concerted investment on the part of the government. In fact, that scientific investment drove the economy. But in recent years that investment has slipped, and many believe the U.S. is at risk of falling behind the rest of the world in scientific innovation, with potential repercussions for the economy.
