Novartis is a world leader in the research and development of products that protect and improve health and well-being. Our global mission is to discover, develop and successfully market innovative products to ease suffering and enhance the quality of life of our patients.
Novartis has been recognized for its admirable reputation, commitment to ethics, status as a respected pillar of the industry and for being an outstanding workplace for its employees. In recent years, we’ve been named among the “Most Admired” (FORTUNE & MedAdNews), “Most Innovative” (Fast Company), and “Most Ethical” (PharmaVoice) companies in the world. With global headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, and U.S. headquarters in East Hanover, New Jersey, the Novartis Group companies employ about 100,000 people and have a presence in more than 140 countries.
Our location in San Carlos, just south of San Francisco, is part of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. It is unique because it is both a Research and Development and a Commercial Manufacturing site capable of progressing a new molecule from discovery to commercial production. The facility integrates drug development; process development; R&D, clinical, and commercial manufacturing; inhalation device development and manufacturing; quality control and assurance; and proprietary equipment design.
We specialize in pulmonary products which are a synthesis of multiple technologies that include formulation, powder processing, filling and devices. The primary focus of Research and Development here is particle engineering in which the facility pioneered the use of spray-drying technology.
San Carlos commercially manufactures the TOBI Podhaler – an inhaled form of dry powder tobramycin used in the prevention of chronic lung infections in cystic fibrosis patients. The TOBI Podhaler, currently approved for use in Europe and Canada, has dramatically reduced treatment time, allowing patients to live more independent lives.
San Carlos has a staff of 200+ people and is a significant contributor to Novartis' growth in respiratory medicines, as well as continuing to actively support surrounding communities. We are constantly looking for the best and the brightest to join our talented team of scientists, engineers, operators, quality assurance and control, product development and support services. About one-quarter of the employees in San Carlos hold advanced science degrees. We offer a work environment that values innovation and the continuous pursuit of knowledge in order to provide the best products to our patients.
San Carlos' unique technology and organizational structure helps the site maintain a small, entrepreneurial feel but with all the privileges and resources that come from being part of a global company. Novartis offers a variety of competitive and comprehensive benefits for eligible full time employees.
