GAINESVILLE, Fla., July 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Exactech, Inc. announced today the introduction of the Optetrak Hi-Flex(TM) knee, representing a further expansion of the company’s highly successful comprehensive Optetrak(R) knee system. The new design provides the potential for improved flexibility following knee replacement surgery.
Based on the Optetrak system’s 10 years of clinical success, the Hi-Flex knee contains design features that maintain Optetrak’s excellent congruity and articular contact pressure throughout the range of motion, including high flexion angles.
“The patented Hi-Flex implant design provides up to 145 degrees of flexion compared with Optetrak’s normal 125 degrees flexion,” said Gary J. Miller, Ph.D., Exactech’s executive vice president for research and development. “This prosthesis enables patients to regain greater knee motion while retaining all the other benefits of our Optetrak design. It is important to note that factors such as patient pre-operative range of motion, rehabilitation, size and soft tissues will affect the post-operative range of motion. Careful selection of patients is critical to ensure the success of any high flexion total knee replacement.”
David Petty, Exactech’s executive vice president for sales and marketing, said, “Hi-Flex is an important addition to the Optetrak line. In Asian and Middle Eastern cultures people commonly bend their knees more than in Western cultures -- for example to pray or when eating. The Hi-Flex Optetrak gives surgeons the ability to provide patients higher flexion to meet these important daily living requirements. Hi-Flex is also an advantage for Exactech in the U.S. market where people from other countries need higher flexion for the same cultural reasons. In addition, many Americans, regardless of cultural background, desire a greater range of motion for their active lifestyles.”
