WASHINGTON, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Veterans in Arkansas will have greater access to long-term health care, thanks to a $4.7 million grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to create a state nursing home in Fayetteville.
"This grant honors our commitment to care for the men and women who have served in uniform," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson. "Our federal-state partnership will provide a comfortable home for Arkansas' veterans in a time of great personal need."
The $4,745,644 grant will pay up to 65 percent of the cost to construct and equip a 108-bed state veterans home in Fayetteville, next to the existing VA medical center. Overall cost of the project is estimated at $7.3 million.
Arkansas operates a 61-bed Arkansas Veterans Home in Little Rock, which also has a 55-bed domiciliary. The home is available to wartime veterans or veterans with service-connected disabilities. Residents must have lived in Arkansas for a year and have honorable discharges.
