Christopher is the first person who is not a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust to be elected to the Nemours Board of Directors. He will continue to serve on the Nemours Board of Managers, which he joined in 1990 and has chaired since 1995.
“Dick Christopher brings value to Nemours via his long experience on the Board of Managers and his demonstrated leadership abilities,” said Nemours Board Chairman John F. (Jack) Porter III. “He will, in effect, wear two hats: intensively focusing on our hospital in Delaware in his Board of Managers role, and looking at the broader picture of health and health care in his new role on the Nemours Board of Directors.” Nemours President and CEO W. Jeff Wadsworth noted: “Mr. Christopher has also contributed to the early success of the Nemours Health and Prevention Services Advisory Council, serving as its inaugural chair.”
“Being named a Director is a tremendous opportunity for me to make a strong, positive impact on the communities that Nemours serves, finding a way to add value in Nemours’ initiatives from the local to the national level,” said Christopher.
Christopher was born in Wilmington, Delaware and received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Mount St. Mary’s University (1961) where he serves as a Trustee. He is the current President of Patterson- Schwartz Real Estate. An active member of his community, Christopher is involved with the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Catholic Diocese Foundation, Delaware Council for Economic Education, The Delaware Valley Real Estate Information Network, and The Realty Alliance and is a director of TreNd. He is also co-chair for the capital campaign for Habitat for Humanity of Newcastle County, Delaware. Christopher resides in Wilmington with his wife and five children.
Established by the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust in 1936, Nemours Foundation initially began operation as an orthopedic hospital in 1940. Today, Nemours is a comprehensive health care system operating in four states, with one of the largest pediatric group practices in the United States.
