FUSION eFilm is a diagnostic quality workstation software application that utilizes an advanced hanging protocol engine to enable automated display of current and prior diagnostic images in a series of layouts. These layouts enable the radiologist to cycle through various image presentations, accelerating their study interpretation productivity. The protocols, which are configurable by each radiologist based upon how they prefer to read and interpret images, are built with the emerging DICOM Hanging Protocol Standard to assure future enhancement of this capability in a manner consistent with the industry standards. Additionally, each radiologist’s pre-configured protocols are available from any workstation throughout the enterprise. The software’s new Roaming Profiles feature ensures that the radiologists’ preferences are available at any workstation when they sign on, assuring that the reading experience is familiar and efficient. The new Key Images feature in FUSION eFilm allows radiologists to easily mark and save sets of key images from the studies, and FUSION eFilm automatically displays those key image sets to referring physicians. This is particularly important for the growing utilization of multi-slice CT, providing referring physicians with a quick and easy way to see the images that are pertinent to the treatment of their patient. All of the new features in FUSION eFilm were designed with input from the practicing radiologists using Merge eFilm’s FUSION RIS, PACS and RIS/PACS software.

“The key images, roaming profiles, hanging protocols and presentation options in FUSION eFilm speed the process of study interpretation and assist our radiologists in their clinical work,” said Dr. Deborah Hellinger, Medical Director at CDI in Westwood, KS. “It is clearly evident that Merge eFilm continues to make efficient, effective radiologist workflow a prime directive in their products.”

eFilm Workstation 2.0 is a separate product that will be available as downloadable desktop software from http://www.merge-efilm.com/ in early December. eFilm Workstation and FUSION eFilm both have the following new features: thumbnail images, which simplify the task of choosing images and display layouts; PET/CT Fusion, a process whereby separate studies from PET and CT are fused for ease of viewing; and enhanced user and login authentication, supportive of HIPAA requirements. Additionally, for the many orthopaedic users of FUSION eFilm and eFilm Workstation, the new versions also support true size printing, which allows an orthopaedic surgeon to specify a scale factor that will result in true-sized DICOM printing, which is needed for orthopedic templating when using acetate templates.

“These new releases continue our strategy of delivering the images and information to radiologists in the way that optimize their time for what they do best - clinical interpretation of diagnostic studies,” said Richard Linden. “We will continue to work closely with our customers to further enhance their productivity and the clinical and business capabilities of FUSION RIS/PACS to support the needs of all clinicians involved in diagnostic imaging.”
