SEWICKLEY, Pa., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Heritage Valley Health System today announced that Daniel Brooks, M.D. was named Chief Operating Officer of the Sewickley Valley Hospital effective February 1, 2005. His new position will also include the responsibilities of Chief Medical Officer for Heritage Valley Health System, which he has held since 2000.

Raised in Moon Township and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine, Dr. Brooks has had a distinguished career as a general surgeon in western Pennsylvania for the past thirty years. After serving as an instructor at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine in surgery from 1971 to 1976 he joined Allegheny General Hospital as the Divisional Head of General Surgery for the next two years. He began practicing general surgery in 1978 with the Surgical Associates of Sewickley before joining Heritage Valley Health System as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer in 2000. He currently serves as a board member on the Coalition for Quality at End of Life and the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania’s Committee on Quality and Care Management. He has served on the boards of VHA Pennsylvania and The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania and the Advisory Committee for the Health Policy Institute.
