HILLSBOROUGH, New Jersey, February 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Excerpta Medica announces the launch of ThrombosisClinic.com-a state-of-the-art Web site that offers a new platform for health care practitioners to access information on this critical topic. The information is evidence based, bringing real clinical experience from practicing health care professionals to other practicing health care professionals, in a true peer-to-peer exchange of information. The site will cover a broad base of topical information, designed around 3 key therapy sectors:

- Arterial thrombosis - Prevention of venous thromboembolism - Treatment of venous thromboembolism The Web site, which will be updated on a frequent basis, features: - Complimentary CME courses and opportunities to earn medical textbooks - Expert commentary from thought leaders in the management of thrombosis

- Thrombosis Resource Room, featuring new information and important research tools

- Complimentary direct access to Mosby's Drug Consult

- Live thrombosis-related Reuters News Feeds, updated Monday-Friday by 7am EST

This unique Web site is the result of an ongoing collaboration between the Advisory Council for the newly formed TRACK (Thrombosis Resource for the Advancement of Clinical Knowledge) initiative, the Elsevier Office of Continuing Medical Education, and Excerpta Medica. The program is made possible through an educational grant from Aventis, Inc.

According to Geno Merli, MD, co-chair of the TRACK initiative, "There is a real need for ongoing practical clinical information on the best practices for the management of thrombosis. Members of the TRACK initiative are working together to develop comprehensive programs that fill this need." In addition, Deepak Bhatt, MD, TRACK co-chair (with Dr. Merli), noted, "Arterial and venous thrombosis causes a substantial amount of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The TRACK initiative aims to provide clinicians with timely information to help improve patient care."

"We expect this Web site to meet the needs of clinicians around the country in terms of educational updates and clinical tools," added Mark Flanick, Director of the Elsevier Office of Continuing Medical Education.
