SOUTHAMPTON, Pa., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Environmental Tectonics Corporation (“ETC” or the “Company”) today announced that Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA, has purchased two BARA-MED(R) monoplace chambers, becoming the third eastern Pennsylvania hospital to acquire the benefits of ETC’s Smooth-Ride(TM) technology. In obtaining this contract, ETC worked closely with the hospital staff, their wound care center, and their architectural and engineering consultants to help ensure that the hyperbaric chamber installation will meet the requirements of operational efficiency, patient comfort, and meet the latest safety standards for healthcare facilities.
Like all BARA-MED(R) monoplace chambers, the units to be delivered incorporate ETC’s standard, automatic control system featuring the Smooth- Ride(TM) compression protocol. Practical experience with ETC chambers over the last eighteen months has reconfirmed US Air Force research. The Smooth- Ride(TM) protocol dramatically reduces discomfort and complications due to middle ear squeeze during chamber pressurization.
Russell E. Peterson, Ph.D., Director of the BioMedical Systems Group, stated, “Once again, a customer has demonstrated that both the unique features of the BARA-MED(R) and our expertise and willingness to assist in the areas of facility design and the installation planning process were deemed to be a critical factors in the selection of our equipment. Our approach to being part of the hospital’s team takes a burden off their shoulders while helping to ensure the successful integration of our hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) systems into their healthcare center.”
Currently, both in the United States and overseas, only a small percentage of hospitals offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The number of chambers is increasing, however, as the benefits of hyperbaric medicine become more widely recognized. As this development occurs, ETC’s BioMedical Systems Group strives to keep its equipment and customers at the forefront of hyperbaric medicine. As a consequence, in addition to their regular use in clinical treatments at medical facilities around the world, ETC hyperbaric chambers are involved in research on new indications for which HBO holds promise.
Mercy Hospital, Scranton, PA, is one of the largest comprehensive, short-term acute and tertiary care hospital in its service area of Northeastern Pennsylvania. With 274 beds and a medical staff of more than 500 physicians, Mercy Hospital offers specialized care in more than 40 areas of medicine. After more than three-quarters of a century bringing the best possible health services to all who need care, Mercy Hospital remains true to the mission of the Sisters of Mercy - to anticipate and meet the needs of the community.
ETC designs, develops, installs and maintains aircrew training systems, public entertainment systems, process simulation systems (sterilization and environmental), clinical hyperbaric systems, environmental testing and simulation systems, and related products for domestic and international customers.
