BOCA RATON, Fla., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Eclipsys Corporation(R) , The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that South Florida Medical Imaging (SFMI), a Boca Raton-based imaging center, has achieved measurable performance improvements just one week after activation of Eclipsys Sunrise RIS (radiology information system).

Sunrise RIS is a feature-rich software system that automates the workflows of radiology departments and clinics to improve delivery of care and service, enhance patient outcomes, reduce costs, and increase productivity. Sunrise RIS is currently installed in more than 100 diagnostic imaging facilities. It can be used as a standalone solution, in conjunction with Sunrise PACS(TM) (picture archiving and communications system), or as an integrated component of an enterprise-wide Sunrise Clinical Manager(TM) solution.

After implementing Sunrise RIS, training staff, and converting data from their previous system in just one week, SFMI noted significant performance improvements. “The most impressive feature of Sunrise RIS is the ease of use,” said Karen Burch, MS RT(R), SFMI director. “Everything is color-coded and just a mouse click away. Our staff can easily move from menu to menu, and we can easily alter the menus to suit the needs of our practice. With the speech recognition module, we have reduced our report turn around time by half. This capability is especially helpful for STAT exams.”

SFMI has also improved the rate of call turnover. “Calls left on hold go to the competition. The drop-down boxes in Sunrise RIS make it easy to click through the necessary appointment information and move on to the next caller,” Burch said.

In addition, Sunrise RIS has reduced training costs at SFMI. “Our old RIS required a week of hands-on practice before we could have the scheduler work independently. With Sunrise RIS, our last new hire was able to manipulate through the menus during the interview process.”

According to Burch, the Eclipsys implementation and technical support teams were professional and competent. “This is the third RIS conversion I have worked on and this was by far the best experience,” she said.

“The increasing demand for Sunrise RIS reflects the growing awareness among radiology professionals and healthcare executives that Sunrise RIS is one of the pre-eminent solutions on the market today,” said John Gomez, EVP and Chief Technology and Strategy Officer of Eclipsys. “With deep functionality like integrated speech recognition, digital dictation, mammography tracking and reporting, film tracking, specialized work lists and web-based accessibility, Sunrise RIS can help solve the care, cost, and performance issues organizations face today.”
