PARSIPPANY, N.J., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare will sponsor the 2005 Innovation in Oral Care Awards. Competitive awards, up to $75,000, will be provided to recipients to advance oral care programs that support the development of innovative and novel compounds, biomaterials, or devices that can be used ultimately at the public health level.
These innovation awards offer opportunities for investigators to conduct dental research with a direct impact on oral healthcare. The awards are also intended to inspire creative and novel research in oral care, above and beyond the bounds of traditional dental research.
“The IADR is extremely grateful for the generosity of GlaxoSmithKline in supporting oral care research,” said Dr. Paul B. Robertson, President of the IADR, “and we look forward to the exciting innovations that will result from these awards and their impact on health. For the 2004 awards, we received an overwhelming number of proposals, indicating that innovation is alive and well in the dental research community.”
“GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare is very proud to sponsor the 2nd annual Innovation in Oral Care Awards,” said David Alexander, Director of Worldwide Professional Affairs, GSK Consumer Healthcare. “We are committed to improving the oral healthcare of people around the world, and are hopeful these innovative concepts will ultimately support our mission of helping people do more, feel better and live longer.”
The awards will be funded by GSK Consumer Healthcare and administered by the IADR. A board of internationally recognized experts, under the chairmanship of Dr. John Stamm, Dean, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, will review all eligible proposals.
All proposals must be submitted online at http://www.dentalresearch.org/ . Proposals are due October 31, 2004, and awards will be presented in March, 2005, at the 83rd General Session of the IADR to be held in Baltimore, MD, USA. Full details, including an application form, will be available on the website beginning September 1, 2004.
